Description
Marking the 40th year since the extraordinary trumpeter/composer Mike Lawrence’s sudden and tragic passing at the age of 37, this multi-generation, top-tier sextet, helmed by trumpeter Chris Rogers and Long-Island based tenor saxophonist Sam Dillon, present the intriguing original compositions that Lawrence performed in New York City jazz clubs from 1977 to 1982, usually with Michael Brecker on tenor sax.
To celebrate the forthcoming remixed and remastered release of Nightwind, trumpeter/composer Chris, a mentee and friend of Lawrence’s, helms the Mike Lawrence Legacy Band, eager to share the body of work of a great composer and pay tribute to a fallen peer’s legacy. Featured on tenor saxophone is Long-Island bred Sam Dillon; Clifford Carter, who toured with James Taylor for decades, plays keyboards, Steve Johns on drums, Brian Glassman on bass, and Theo Rogers on guitar.
